Data Analyst Job Vacancy: Eastern Africa Grain Council

The Eastern Africa Grain Council is a Membership based organization incorporating the key stakeholders in the regional grain industry including the private and public sector.

The Mandate of EAGC is to develop, promote, and influence structured grain trading systems in the Eastern Africa region with defined rules and regulations.

Its core function is to improve the policy and trading environment in the Eastern Africa regional grain trade, strengthen market linkages and reduce the constraints along the grain value chains.

EAGC seeks to recruit a highly motivated professional with a demonstrated understanding of statistical modelling, developed analytical & technical experience gained in the agricultural sector and excellent communication & relationship building skills for the positions of:

Data analyst


Based in Nairobi and reporting to the Structured Trading Systems manager, The Data Analyst will be responsible for providing regional grain market intelligence including policy, markets and price data research and analysis.

The Specific tasks will include:
  1. Collection, analysis, and dissemination of national and regional grain market information to EAGC members and other stakeholders in the grain sector.
  2. Timely and accurate reporting of grain news regarding research, special publications, production, price trends, trade opportunities, regulation changes etc.
  3. Develop and maintain a wide net of contacts / information sources including liaising with Regional and National MIS service providers.
  4. Publish the monthly regional agricultural information bulletin on food and trade issues. This is expected to include information on forward trends that will affect regional as well as grain trade opportunities, production outlook, and regional commodity price and volume movements.
  5. Manage the cross-border data col lection, network and discovery of alternative cost effective regional data collection mechanisms.
  6. Maintain the administrative and technical functions of the RATIN and EAGC web-site to keep the site in full operation at all times. Follow-up website inquiries and explore the expansion of website capabilities to keep the network fresh and efficient.
  7. Manage the communication program for EAGC that includes but not limited to EAGC website management, inquiry response, email information "flashes", publications, public and press relations, and take a pro-active stance in developing and expanding this new program. This includes membership recruitment.
  8. Work with the EAGC team to assist in the preparation of annual work plans designed to effectively achieve project objectives in expanded regional trade.
  9. Assist in the preparation of timely quarterly and annual progress reports following standard format.
Requirements:

The suitable candidate should have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills
  • Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Economics, Statistics or Social Sciences, Masters degree will have an added advantage
  • Experience of 7 years in a related position in the agricultural private sector
  • Excellent Computer and statistical analysis skills
  • Experience in the use of SPSS, FoxPro
  • Willing to travel across the region
  • Valid driving license and passport
