Webmaster Job: African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC)

AFRICAN POPULATION AND HEALTH RESEARCH CENTER
Promoting the well-being of Africans through policy-relevant research on population and health

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality and policy-relevant research on population and health issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.

The Center seeks to recruit a Webmaster.

The overall purpose of the job is to redesign and manage APHRC's website and intranet.

Responsibilities

1. Redesigning and managing the APHRC website
  • Revitalize the information architecture and link knowledge products to the four research focus areas.
  • Redesign the website focusing on new innovations in the field, such as blogs, wikis, etc, to improve content presentation, access, use and feedback.
  • Introduce links to enable users to share documents with friends or colleagues.
  • Use a content management system that enables anyone to update the site without requiring specialized skills or training.
  • Develop fundraising opportunities through the website by creating systems that will facilitate such.
  • Assess the IT needs of various programs at APHRC - both research and administration programs - and create avenues to respond to the identified needs through the website and other IT tools.
2. Managing the Center's Intranet
  • Upload information on the intranet.
  • Train staff on how to make best use of the intranet.
  • Keep the intranet fresh and adaptable to emerging needs.
3. Communication
  • Generate stories and photos for online posting.
Skills and Qualifications
  • At least a Bachelors Degree in information sciences or a related discipline
  • At least four years relevant experience
Preference will be given to candidates who are competent writers and good photographers, with an interest in knowledge management.
