Venture Strategies Innovations (VSI) Jobs & Careers: Project Officer

Venture Strategies Innovations (VSI) is a non-profit organization based in Anaheim, California and incorporated into the laws of California, USA and applies technical expertise to lead efforts toward policy development for the use of low cost innovations in the prevention and management of postpartum hemorrhage in developing countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Introduction:
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the most common cause of maternal mortality. The administration of a uterotonic drug (e.g. misoprostol) immediately following delivery significantly decreases likelihood of PPH.

Project Goal:To reduce maternal mortality as a result of postpartum hemorrhage in Kenya
General Objective: Reduce maternal death and disability through medical management of PPH
Responsibilities of the Project Coordinator

The role of the Project Coordinator is to serve as the primary point of contact for VSI and oversee all activities for the KOGS/

DRH community-based post partum hemorrhage management project, such as research implementation, data collection and evaluation, and financial oversight:

a) Team selection and team training
b) Determine facilities involved in project implementation
c) Coordinate and supervise monitoring and data collection efforts of the project
d) Monitor project allocated funds
e) Report all project deliverables to VSI Country Programs Manager
f) Facilitate the dissemination of project findings within the Ministry of Health and interested scientific communities

Additional Responsibilities may include:
• Report and maintain regular weekly communications with the VSI Country Programs Manager
• Represent the VSI organization at meetings related to the project
• Identify the individuals and organizations willing to work toward reaching the goals of the PPH project
• Participate in existing and future relevant health fora and committees to advance the consensus building process and the
dissemination of knowledge
• Conduct other tasks as requested.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently, adaptable and highly organized
• Diplomatic and effective
• Impeccable standards of ethics, trust, confidentiality and integrity
• Empathy for and proven interest in women’s health in Kenya

Professional requirements:

• Doctor, nurse, or nurse-midwife with background in reproductive health
• At least two years project management experience (preferably with the government or non-governmental organizations)
• Conversant in English and proficiency in written English
• Basic computer skills, proficiency in MS office.
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Excellent judgment and project management skills
• Ability to creatively solve problems through analytical thinking
• Collaborative and inclusive working style, including good negotiation skills
• Superior written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to travel within Kenya

Position reports to Country Programs Manager for Kenya,Venture Strategies Innovations
Remuneration: competitive and commensurate with experience
