Help Age International - Africa Regional Development Centre
(HAI-ARDC)
Background
HelpAge International is a global network of not-for-profit organisations with a vision of a world where older people fulfill their potential to lead active, dignified, healthy and secure lives.
HelpAge International is looking to recruit a qualified individual to push its social protection agenda forward.
Social Protection is among HelpAge International's thematic areas of work.
Due to their diminished opportunities to get employment, older persons make up a large number of those living in poverty.
This situation has been made worse by the burden HIV/AIDS' has placed on older persons, as they increasingly take on the role of care givers to their children who are sick or to their orphaned grandchildren.
Without social protection, especially social pension or other cash transfer, older persons and those under their care are forced to live in extreme poverty.
HelpAge International's goal is to work with national, regional and international state and non-state actors to achieve a universal social pension for older persons in Africa.
