Program description: KEMRI/University of Washington Program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the University of Washington, Seattle, has the following opportunities that are challenging, diverse and rewarding:
4 Positions: Study Nurses
Location: Based in 4 Geographical Regions across Kenya (Nyanza and Western, Rift Valley, Nairobi and Central and Coast and North Eastern). Will lead a mobile team within their designated region staying one or two weeks at each study site then moving to the next study site for a period of 6 months.
Reports to: The project Director.
Essential Qualifications;

- Education: Registered Nurse or higher from a recognized institution.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience post training with experience in working with HIV/AIDS patients. Those with experience in a clinical research setup will be highly considered.
- Desirable Qualities:
- Ability to prioritize workload of self and program team members and balance conflicting demands.
- Ability to lead and work within a team environment and in a diverse cultural environment.
- Work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients verbally and in writing.
Position Summary:
Incumbent will have oversight of the field team in the execution of the STI Surveillance Study Protocol requirements. S/He will supervise the administration of the study questionnaires, collection and shipping of laboratory specimens and coordinate with the Project manager to resolve any issues as they occur.
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Implementation of the STI Surveillance Protocol in the field
- Supervise research assistants under them
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the study designs and goals, and ensure that study is conducted in compliance with study protocols and other regulatory requirements
- Provide medical advice and respond to clinical queries from the study staff, and to questions about the study posed by participants and others
- Make diagnoses and decisions to treat patients according to study protocol
- Accurately complete and check all study documents
- Report problems encountered in the field to the Principal Investigator or other designated personnel
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the trial investigator’s project manager
- Authoring of the clinical SOPs for the study
Terms of Employment: A six (6) month contract as per KEMRI scheme of service.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.

Essential Qualifications;
- Education: Medical laboratory technician or certificate in IT or certificate in HIV counselling (or higher qualifications) will be considered
- Experience: Those with experience in a research setup such as surveys, data entry etc, will be highly considered. Experience in working with HIV/AIDS patients is an added advantage.
- Desirable Qualities:
- Ability to work within a team environment and in a diverse cultural environment.
- Work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.
