Brief Description

Develop, implement and maintain strategies for cost effective procurement of inflight products, jet fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles in order to achieve a safe and reliable supply chain for Kenya Airways

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement and review procurement policies, procedures and strategies to ensure procurement for in-flight products, aircraft fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles delivers best value.
  2. Source in-flight products, aircraft fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles that meet KQ quality standards for smooth operation of the business.
  3. Undertake market research for in-flight products, aircraft fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles suppliers to benchmark prices at various outstations and airfields in the KQ network to ensure best prices are enjoyed by KQ.
  4. Carry out periodic cost/benefit analysis on procurement methods to ensure best options are used to achieve quality in-flight products, aircraft fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles and services.
  5. Liaise with KLM and AF Procurement teams to leverage and benefit from Group Synergies.
  6. Ensure internal customers in Flight Operations, NAS and Ground Operations adhere to laid down procedures for procurement, utilisation of in-flight products, aircraft fuel and fuel for KQ vehicles and providing timely information for payment and financial management of this spend category.
  7. Negotiate best price and terms of contracts with suppliers to achieve savings.
  8. Prepare contract terms and conditions and get legal dept sign-off.
  9. Develop and enhance the use of IS systems to speed up and simplify procurement processes
  10. Respond to procurement queries to enable staff to act accordingly.
  11. Undertake supplier rationalization, development and performance rating to ensure timely deliveries and quality assurance including supplier database maintenance.
  12. Control and monitor section budget to control costs.
  13. Preparation of purchasing reports for management review.
  14. Motivate, develop and lead the buying team to achieve desired results.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience
  • Business or relevant degree
  • Graduate Diploma in supplies management or equivalent from a recognised institution
  • Fuel Trading experience a plus

  • 10 years experience in purchasing and supplies management
  • 3 years in management level.
