East African Business Council Careers: Research & Policy Adviser (RPA)

The EABC, the regional apex body for private sector associations and corporate members,
was founded in 1997 and now has 129 members. EABC’s vision is to be an effective
change agent fostering an enabling business environment leading to competitive, export-
led, integrated and sustainable economies in East Africa. EABC has positioned itself as a
privileged policy dialogue partner and now aims to build on its achievements.

With support from Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA), a new initiative to support East African
regional integration, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and
other development partners, EABC seeks to recruit a Research & Policy Adviser.

The Position
The Research & Policy Adviser (RPA) will be responsible for ensuring that EABC develops
and implements an effective dialogue and advocacy strategy building on EABC’s early
successes. The position holder will report jointly to EABC’s Executive Director and TMEA’s
Manager for Dialogue and Advocacy.

Roles and responsibilities will include the promotion and formation of sectoral clusters;
engaging effectively with national associations in the work of EABC; commissioning
and managing research, and disseminating research and policy positions papers to
stakeholders; ensuring appropriate branding, partnership, communication and information
flows and resource planning.

Requirements:
• A degree in economics, international trade, law or related subject; masters preferred
• Experience and expertise in public private dialogue and private sector advocacy, with
extensive practical knowledge in the formulation and negotiation of policy interests
involving multiple stakeholders;
• Experience in the management of complex and diverse projects involving private and
public sectors;
• Proven experience of influencing, networking and building sound relationships;
• Demonstrable budgeting and financial management experience.
