standard of living and improve food security through improved animal health and
animal production.
In East Africa, our programmes focus on community based animal health services, training centers for mid-level animal health workers and sustainable natural resource utilisation.
Position Title: Project Manager - Improved Community Response to Drought (ICRD 2)
Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel to Karamoja region (Uganda), Turkana district, Chalbi district (and across the border into Ethiopia) and Wajir East and South districts (and across the border into Lower Juba region of Somalia)
Duration: 1 Year renewable

Role
The Project Manager will manage and coordinate the implementation of the ICRD Project in six specific locations along Kenya’s borders with Uganda, Ethiopia and Somalia.
This will involve:
- the coordination of partner activities (partners include VSF Germany and VSF Suisse);
- provision of both technical and strategic leadership;
- ensuring efficient project development and management;
- ensuring that systems and procedures are in line with VSFB policies, VSFB strategy, donor and legal requirements.
The Project Manager reports to the Regional Programme Manager for East-Africa and manages two project staff.

- Co-ordinate all aspects of project management and development.
- Ensure effective and efficient financial management of the project.
- Ensure Staff working on the project has the capacity to implement activities in the project.
- Representation of VSFB at local, national and regional levels.
- Ensure effective communication and information flow within the project and with the Regional Office Nairobi.
- Participate in relevant development networks
Essential or Minimum Requirements
Education
Education
- University degree in management and /or development related field
- Post graduate training in either organisational development, community based, participatory approaches, or business administration.
Knowledge and experience
- 5 years experience in project management especially in pastoralist areas,
- project development and management
- Expertise in Drought preparedness and contingency planning
- Experience of working in other countries is an advantage
- Good knowledge of project cycle management
- Proven experience of managing partners
- Experience with proposal writing
- Very good knowledge of ECHO rules and regulations
- Experience with managing budgets
Skills
- Excellent management, planning, organizational and coordination skills
- Proven ability to work with a range of stakeholders including civil authorities,
- donors and project partners
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Good writing and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Accuracy
- Ability to deal with conflict and crises
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to prepare and present issues at all levels
- Computer literacy with very good MS Excel, Word and Power point
