VSF-Suisse seeks to fill the position below for its USAID funded “Enhanced Livelihood in the Mandera Triangle ELMT” working in Gedo and Lower Juba Regions of Somalia.
The position is based in Afmadow with sojourns to Gedo region, Somalia and candidate should be willing to reside and work under basic living conditions.
1. Project Officer

1. Project Officer
(1 Position)
Key Responsibilities:-
- Define the scope and context of alternative livelihoods activities that specifically address the needs of communities in Lower Juba especially with women/women groups;
- Develop a foundation for best practice in the design, implementation and development of alternative livelihoods activities among the women/women groups;
- Conduct activity specific training for selected beneficiary groups/individuals on alternative livelihood activities among the women/women groups;
- Provide support in the organization of practical field days on value addition/alternative livelihood activities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
- In liaison with technical staff, design and implement data collection and analysis procedures on alternative livelihoods activities for both evaluation and monitoring;
- Create awareness, motivation and linkages to consumers on alternative livelihood products.
- Creation of linkages for existing market structures.
- Carry out pilot projects on alternative livelihoods activities (milk, meat, other livestock products, processing, storage and marketing) among the women/women groups.
- Facilitate business trainings among the women groups.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills required
- University degree in Social Science or Development Studies
- Interested in livestock related Rural Development Projects
- Excellent computer skills.
- At least 3 years experience of working with Pastoral Communities.
- Willingness to stay in remote areas
- Knowledge of the Somali Eco-System and language is added advantage
