Background -CRS Kenya has been piloting the savings-led microfinance (Savings and Internal Lending Communities -SILC) approach since early 2006 with significant success particularly in providing financial solutions to communities that have traditionally been excluded from microcredit services.
Position Purpose:The Savings-led Microfinance Project Officer will facilitate Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops by ensuring that local partners’ capacity in CRS Kenya’s savings-led microfinance methodology and MIS tools is improved. S/he will work closely with other CRS and partner staff to promote economic strengthening through integration of CRS’ SILC approach as a key microfinance strategy for improving household income levels for vulnerable groups. S/he will be based in Nairobi; however s/he will dedicate a significant amount
of time in in-country field visits (at least 50%).
Responsibilities:
• Work in close collaboration with local partners and other CRS project staff in integrating SILC in all other projects
• Provide technical assistance, guide and support partners on data collection and analysis and manage the development, monitoring and evaluation of the SILC portfolio.
• Facilitate planning and review sessions and participate in budget processes for partners’ SILC activities
• In collaboration with other CP staff and partners, identify capacity gaps, design and facilitate ToT workshops; build capacity of partner staff on the SILC methodology, planning, implementation, management and monitoring of the program; identify and disseminate information on lessons learned and best practices.
• Maintain the partner level SILC MIS and train local partners in the use and management.
• Participate in development of promotion and marketing materials and raise awareness, promote and market the SILC model with new partners in the field and design/strengthen a resource center
Qualifications and skills
• A Bachelors degree in social sciences or business-related subjects from a reputable university.
• At least 3 years experience in savings-led microfinance models (e.g. Village Savings and Loans – VSL;
Community-based Savings for Empowerment – COSAVE; Savings for Change).
• Proven training/facilitation skills
• Leadership/Management skills
• Team player with good coordination and communication skills
• Thematic knowledge of Microfinance
• Computer proficiency
