The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is a state corporation registered under the Company’s Act. Its core functions include detailed surface exploration, appraisal and
production drilling, and assessment and development of geothermal steam fields in the numerous potential areas within the Kenya Rift Valley. To build capacity, the Geothermal
Development Company seeks to recruit experienced, dynamic and visionary staff that would see the company deliver steam equivalent to at least 1,50OMW of geothermal capacity by
2018. In line with its business model, GDC is seeking high caliber, results-oriented and selfdriven professionals with integrity, to effectively drive the geothermal strategy in the following
positions:
MANAGER, QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ICT (REF. NO. GDC2/QA 01/09)
Reporting to the General Manager, s/he will be responsible for leading the Quality Assurance and ICT functions in the organization. The work will entail ensuring quality achievement
and performance improvement throughout the organization by defining processes and KPI’s needed for quality and environmental management systems. S/he will, together with HR
department, ensure that the performance monitoring system is consistent with the company’s objectives. The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate engineering degree and
at least eight (8) years experience in implementation of quality management system preferably in geothermal resource development. In addition, a proven track record of successfully
implementing technical and continual improvement projects on time and on budget with significant impact is essential for this role.
MANAGER, PLANNING AND STRATEGY (REF. NO. GDC2/PS 02/09)
Reporting to the General Manager, s/he will be responsible for proactively developing and advising on short and long term geothermal projects pian and strategies at all stages of
development including surface exploration, exploration drilling, appraisal drilling, production drilling and feasibility studies. An undergraduate degree in engineering or related field with at
least eight (8) years experience in planning and strotegy formulation in a leading organization is essential for this position. Possession of post graduate training in geothermal technology
and knowledge of geothermai drilling processes will be required.
MANAGER, FINANCE (REF. NO. GDC2/F 03/09)
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the efficient and effective operation of the finance department. The duties will entail ensuring that financing and
budgeting needs are met through establishing the right financing mix, developing sound financial management systems and provision of accurate management accounting information.
The position requires an undergraduate degree and at least fifteen (15) years of experience in a finance (project finance) field in a leading organization, five (5) of which should be in a
senior financial management position. Possession of a Masters degree in a relevant professional field would be an added advantage.
CHIEF ACCOUNTANT (REF. NO. GDC3/F 04/09)
Reporting to the General Manager s/he will be expected to secure all financial needs for capital projects; manage the financial and management accounting functions; manage GDC’s
finances; and drive the overall annual budgeting process. The successful candidate will possess a relevant undergraduate degree preferably in accounting or finance. A professional
accounting qualification and membership in an accounting professional body are essential for this position. S/he will have at least ten (10) years experience in financial management
and project finance in a reputable organization. Possession of a Masters degree will be an added advantage. The individual will have a proven track record of delivering on multi-billion
financing projects.
MANAGER, SUPPLY CHAIN (REF. NO. GDC2/SC 05/09)
The supply chain Manager will report to General Manager s/he will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the supply chain department. This includes managing
local and international procurement, monitoring expenditure, contracts negotiation and evaluating supplier relationships. He/she will oversee development of sound procurement
monitoring frameworks including the development of periodic procurement plans. The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree coupled with at least ten (10) years
experience in procurement/supply chain management, five (5) of which should be at management level ‘in a reputable organization. A post-graduate diploma or higher in procurement/
supply chain management and membership in a relevant professional organization will be an added advantage.
COMPANY SECRETARY (REF. NO. GDC1/CS 06/09)
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be a statutory Board Member with duties as prescribed by Kenya Law, including, but not limited to, the provision of
Secretarial, Legal and Insurance services to GDC. The Company Secretary will liaise with management to review, analyze and interpret laws, regulations and judicial decisions, provide
support in contract negotiations and management, as well as provide other legal related services as necessary. In addition, s/he will establish efficient and effective insurance policies
to protect GDC assets. The ideal candidate will possess a legal undergraduate degree and Certified Public Secretary (CPS) qualification. A Mastefs degree and relevant professional
affiliations would be an added advantage. In addition to being a registered advocate of the High Court of Kenya, the individual will possess at least ten (10) years of legal experience.
INTERNAL AUDIT MANAGER (REF. NO. GDC2/IA 07/09)
Reporting to the General Manager, the Internal Audit Manager will provide independent objective assurance on the effectiveness of the organization’s risk management, internal
control and governance processes. The successful candidate will prepare risk-based Annual Audit plans aligned to GDC’s objectives for the continuous audit of the organization’s
risk management, internal controls, governance processes, financial statements and quarterly audit reports to the Audit Committee of the Board. The position requires a holder of a
Bachelors degree in commerce or a closely related discipline, ten (10) years of internal audit experience and membership with any one of the following institutes; Institute of Certified
Public Accountants of Kenya, Institute of Internal Auditors or Institute of Systems Audit and Control Association.
PR AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (REF. NO. GDC3/PRC 08/09)
Reporting to the General Manager s/he will be responsible for public relations management and the development, screening and publication of all communication materials for internal
and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree, be a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) and have at least ten (10) years
experience leading a communications department of a reputable organization. Possession of a Masters degree will be an added advantage. in addition, a proven track record of
successfully implementing communications initiatives that positively impact various stakeholders is essential for this role.
MANAGER, HUMAN RESOURCES AND ADMINISTRATION (REF. NO. GDC1/HRA 09/09)
The Manager, Human Resources and Administration will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the human resources and
administration departments. The candidate will be expected to develop a robust resultsdriven performance management culture through the organization. In addition to developing
best practice human resource and administration strategies, policies and procedures aimed at achieving GDC’s strategic objectives, the individual will be expected to establish efficient
mechanisms for effective employee relations. The role will include delivery of efficient and effective administrative and office services including property and office maintenance,
security and transport. The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree coupled with at least fifteen (10) years of human resources capacity building and administrative
experience in a leading organization. Possession of a Masters degree and professional affiliations will be an added advantage.
ADMINISTRATION OFFICER (REF.NO. GDC3/HRA 10/09)
The Administration Officer will report to the Human Resources and Administration Manager and will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Administration
department. The manager will be expected to lead general administration, maintain GDC facilities and manage security and transportation. This will include assets management,
overseeing the provision of courier, switchboard and cleaning services, as well as management of outsourced service providers. The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate
degree and at least ten (10) years experience within the administration department of a reputable organization. Possession of a Masters degree will be an added advantage. The
candidate must have a proven track record of providing effective and efficient administration services while operating on lean budgets.
MANAGER, RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (REF. NO. GDC2/RD 11/09)
Reporting to the Chief Manager, Energy Research and Development, s/he will be in charge of the management of geothermal resource assessment activities including exploration
and appraisal and production drilling programs to ensure effective delivery planned geothermal capacity on schedule. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in earth
sciences and post graduate training in geothermal technology with at least ten (10) years experience in geothermal resource development with a proven track record of delivering
geothermal projects on time and within budget. A Masters degree in any relevant field will be an added advantage.
MANAGER, ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY (REF NO. GDC2/ES 12/09)
Reporting to the Chief Manager, Energy Research and Development, the ideal candidate will be expected to ensure that GDC’s operations are in line with the established environmental
and OHS statutes and standards and ensure they are entrenched in all relevant operations in the organization, as well as promote the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) concept.
The position requires a holder of an undergraduate degree preferably in an Environment related field and at least ten (10) years experience in environmental management. A good
understanding of established environmental standards and their implementation and continual improvement is essential for this role. The candidate must have a proven track record
in developing stakeholder relationships and managing environmental, social and safety issues in a geothermal setup. Possession of a Master’s degree and/or postgraduate training in
geothermal technology will be an added advantage.
MANAGER, RESERVOIR ENGINEERING (REF. NO. GDC2/RE 13/09)
Reporting to the Chief Manager, Energy Research and Development, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the management and coordination of all geothermal reservoir
engineering activities including geothermal reservoir assessment, well testing, modeling and reservoir performance forecasts and management. The ideal candidate will possess an
undergraduate degree in engineering or sciences, post graduate training in geothermal reservoir technology and at least ten (10) years working experience in geothermal reservoir,
engineering. S/he must demonstrate knowledge and experience of current practice in geothermal reservoir and wellbore simulation and modeling. Possession of a Master’s degree in
a relevant field will be an added advantage.
MANAGER, DRILLING OPERATIONS (REF. NO. GDC2/RE 14/09)
Reporting to the Chief Manager, Energy Research and Development, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the management and coordination of all geothermal well drilling
activities including supervising drilling process, service contracts, drilling engineering design and to ensure strict adherence to drilling schedules. The ideal candidate will possess an
undergraduate degree in engineering and post graduate training in geothermal technology and at least ten (10) years working experience in drilling activities. The candidate must have
a proven track record in developing drilling services tenders, contracts and negotiations. In addition, s/he must have an understanding of drilling contract management and must be
knowledgeable in high temperature geothermal drilling.
DEPUTY MANAGER, EXTERNAL PROGRAMS (REF. NO. GDC2/RD 15/09)
Reporting to the Resource Development Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible for marketing geothermal resource utilization potential to stakeholders to ensure an effective
and holistic development of all forms of geothermal energy in the country. In addition s/he will be responsible for the management and coordination of consultancy services in Kenya
and internationally. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in engineering or earth sciences and a post graduate training in geothermal technology with at least ten
(10) years experience in geothermal exploration, well measurements, steam and hot brine pipeline design and construction. The candidate must have a proven track record in contract
negotiation, project proposal writing, and interaction with various stake holders in the geothermal industry. Possession of a Masters degree in a relevant professional field would be an
added advantage.
