Regional Multi Country Education Advisor Job: Save the Children

Save the Children is one of UK's largest international charities working for the rights and welfare of children in the UK and over 50 of the world's least developed countries.

The Regional Office for East and Southern Africa is based in Addis Ababa, with 2 other locations in Nairobi and Pretoria.

It covers and coordinates programmes in East and Southern Africa since its inception in 2005.

We are seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Regional Multi Country Education Advisor to be based in our Sub Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Job Purpose

This role will focus on providing support to Southern Sudan, Somalia and DRC. All of these countries are part of the Save the Children Rewrite the Future global campaign that works to ensure children in countries affected by conflict have access to a good quality education in a protective environment.

Key Accountabilities

Education Programme Technical Assistance (40% of time)
  • Provide day-to-day technical advice to ensure the delivery of programmes
  • Support the design and development of monitoring and evaluation systems, including
  • baseline data, to ensure that measurable outcomes and impacts of country-level work are demonstrated
  • Advise on incorporating learning from M&E
Fundraising & Programme Development Support (20% of time)
  • Advise on the technical content of country- or multi-country funding proposals
HP, Mentoring and Capacity-Building (20% of time)
  • Assist country programmes in the selection and recruitment of senior education staff
Regional Networking & Representation (5% of time)
  • Represent our work to, and work with regional civil society organisations and networks, for example ANCEFA
Country-Regional-Global Linkages (5% of time)
  • Ensure that Regional Directors, Country Directors and Headquarters are kept informed of current and potential major programme directions
Person Specification Essential
  • Masters in Education and Development or the equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in education programme management in the context of international development, management of budgets and personnel, of which 3 years in fragile states contexts.
